My qualifications and career

I have a degree in theology, a postgraduate certificate in education (religious studies and history), a Masters degree in educational administration and management and a PhD in education.

After being a teacher and departmental head in both the independent and state sectors, I was headmaster of independent senior and preparatory schools in West Yorkshire and Cambridge for seven years. I was also a school governor for sixteen years.

I am a former chief/principal examiner in GCSE Religious Studies and have many years of experience as a GCSE and A-level examiner and moderator (Religious Studies and Critical Thinking).

I have extensive experience of educational and historical research, and I am creator, series editor and principal author of the 'Briefly' Series (SCM Press), 'SCM AS/A2 Ethics and Moral Philosophy', and of journal articles and academic papers.

I am a member of the Society of Authors and a registered teacher with the General Teaching Council for England.

My particular areas of expertise and interest are:

History of education
Philosophy of education
Educational law, administration and management
Special educational needs and the history of special education in England and Wales.
